Keeping a home in great condition can be a lot of work each day, but it's work worth doing if you want to enjoy all the best of the home comforts you want.

Aside from the general maintenance jobs that always crop up when you least expect them to, there are the humdrum day to day chores that need to be done just to keep the place looking neat and tidy as well as clean and hygienic.

The purpose of this blog is to allow me to voice my own opinions as to what the best methods and tactics might be from my perspective. It's here for me to pass on my own experiences and knowledge so that anyone can take my ideas and maybe incorporate them into their own home cleaning and maintenance way of life.

I'll try to keep things light hearted and interesting, even though some chores might seem to be dreadfully dull and boring. Even so, just sweeping up can have a lighter side to it when you get creative with your time.

The blog posts will come every now and again as I get ideas and the time to type them out here. You never know, I might just share something with you that you can use!

Cleaning Carpets

Do you want to clean your carpets as simply as you can without the need for hiring professional carpet cleaners with their big noisy machines?

Here are some ideas you can make use of that will rejuvenate your carpet and have it looking great again!

Doing It Yourself

This simple Do-It-Yourself method is recommended for cleaning carpet stains that are small or recent.

To remove most of the dirt and dust from your carpet, you should begin by vacuuming it. Modern vacuum cleaners can remove most dirt from carpets.

Fill a spray can with 1/4 cup white vinegar, 1 tablespoon dish soap, and water. Spray the stain well with the mixture and then use a towel to blot it off until it is gone.

You can use a soap or carpet cleaner solution to clean your carpets. Rinse with warm water to get rid of any suds and then dry thoroughly.

Useful Tips

  • It is important to treat stains immediately or when discoloration begins, with a high-quality spot remover.
  • To ensure that your carpets are colorfast, test any cleaning products or solutions. You can test it in a small area that is not easily seen.
  • You might feel tempted to scrub those spots really hard. Don't. It is better to use light blotting than heavy-duty rubbing. A stain can spread or soak into carpet fibers and fabric if it is rubbed. It is more difficult to lift a stain this way. Blot the stain instead with a paper towel or a washcloth. Instead of rubbing the liquid deeper into the fabric, this will absorb it.

Whole-Room Carpet Cleaning

Carpet cleaning without a machine can be time-consuming. It is important to allow enough time, even more than you think, to complete the task.

Baking soda, carpet shampoo and water are all good options. This method requires a lot of towels so it is worth asking a friend or family member for old towels they may have.

  • Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet. Then vacuum up all traces of dirt and debris. Baking soda can also be used to neutralize odors.
  • In a spray bottle, add two drops of carpet shampoo to warm water. Apply the mixture to the carpet and do not soak the fibers.
  • To remove dirt and debris, brush the carpet with a carpet brush.
  • To rinse, fill a spray bottle with water and spray the area.
  • To remove any remaining moisture, dry it with a set of old towels.
  • Use a carpet grooming tool to finish your carpet cleaning.

These are some tips to keep in mind.

  • You can speed up drying by choosing a warm day when your windows can be open.
  • Move furniture and other items before you start cleaning.
  • You can work in smaller sections.
  • To ensure you don't cross over clean areas, start in the corner of the room and then work your way toward the door or threshold.
  • To get rid of residue, rinse carpets thoroughly after cleaning.

Summary

These tips are great for cleaning small carpet areas and spot stains if you want to avoid the cost of hiring professional cleaners.

However, for bigger cleaning jobs, it can be more economical to call in the professionals who know how to do the job fast and efficiently instead of potentially wasting a lot of your own valuable time if you're not sure what to do.

Around the Home

Welcome to my newest blog about all kinds of ways of doing stuff around the home in many diverse and interesting ways, hence the name Diverse Home!

I have to admit that I actually enjoy keeping house, my house that is! I feel good when I'm doing chores around the place that I know will add to the comfort and cleanliness that will afford me a great place to spend my time and a place to relax and enjoy when I'm finished doing the housework!

What it's About

In this blog, I'll be writing down a lot of the things that I do to keep my home in good order. I'll be sharing some tips and tricks that have helped me over the years to make the work as easy, efficient and quick as possible without cutting corners of missing important parts out.

There are many daily chores that many people do that some find hard work while others find pretty easy. The trick is to figure out what the ones that are finding it easy are doing to make it easy and avoid doing the things that the ones that find it hard are doing to make it hard work!

Tools and Tricks

A lot of the jobs can be made easier by using the right tools for each job. That's a given but it's surprising just how many people miss that obvious point and give themselves a hard time by using the wrong tools or not having the right things to hand when they need them.

I'll talk about the tools I use for certain jobs and also the things that I have discovered over time that can make things a little easier where I can. I'll also talk about some of the home maintenance jobs I've done or I'm planning to do and how I did them or will do them.

So Much to Do

There are so many things that can and should be done around the house and the garden or yard for that matter. It can become a full-time job that's unpaid and often unappreciated by the rest of the family (unless I remind them) that can be quick and easy or long, drawn-out and difficult depending on how you do it.

On the flip side, a lot of what I do in the home I see as fulfilling and even enjoyable at times. So many of the tasks I perform are not chores to me, but more like a means to an end that have a payoff that makes me feel good. Not too many of my friends will agree with me there, but some do and you can bet they are the ones that are doing things the right way and making it easy on themselves instead of difficult and tough going.

So Little Time

How much time do you spend on housework each day? Does it feel like most of your spare time is used up doing chores?

Not me!

I don't spend all that much time keeping my house tidy and clean the way I like it, even though it all gets done well before lunchtime and I can sit back with a nice cup of coffee and enjoy the rest of my day.

How do I do that?

You'll need to read my blog posts as I reveal my secrets and tricks!
